A preliminary draft of the Telford Lake Master Plan is now ready for public review and feedback. ISL Engineering and Land Services has prepared the draft plan in consultation with the City of Leduc and the Telford Lake Steering Committee.
The draft plan is also based on stakeholder feedback received at the Telford North and South residents meetings in April 2009 and at workshops with stakeholders and rowing/paddling groups throughout Spring/Summer 2009.
The Telford Lake Master Plan will guide the City in the long-term protection and management of Telford Lake and will define a clear direction for the development and management of the area for year-round recreational use, which includes a new rowing/paddling venue.
The plan strives to accommodate the diverse needs of lake users as well as adjacent residents and landowners, while enhancing recreational opportunities and ensuring the sustainability and protection of key ecological features of the lake. Based on resident, stakeholder and steering committee input received to date, some features for the area are being proposed for your consideration.
To date the project team has also completed:
-
Background assessments (including biophysical, lake water, quality/depth/habitat,land-use, and site reconnaissance),
-
Initial Concept Options (three initial concept options were developed and presented to stakeholder groups and City of Leduc Staff and Council),
-
A Preliminary Master Plan (preferred concepts elements are combined into a preliminary plan and designed to a higher level of detail), and
-
A Preliminary Concept Plan which was presented, at a public open house on October 20, 2009, to receive feedback for use in further design development.
Next steps to complete the Master Plan include:
- An Implementation Plan (capital cost, budgeting and phasing information will be generated to create strategies to implement the Master Plan)
- Final Master Plan (a fully refi ned and detailed Master Plan will be presented to Stakeholders and City Council for discussion and fine tuning)
- Final Public Open House (the final Master Plan will be presented to the public for final questions and comments - End of November)
- Final Report (the culmination of the design process, this report outlines the design process)
- Final Master Plan and Implementation Plan (the fi nal Master Plan will be presented to the City Council for final approval - End of December)
Feedback from the community was accepted until October 30, 2009.
